Street-work program
We have three big street-work programs:
1. Ostrava region
2. Frýdek-Místek region
3. Nový Jičín region
Role of this program is (to) actively search and contact hidden population of drug users in their habitat.
The group of persons to whom the service is intended:
- Active non- alcoholic drug users over 15 years of age in any stage of drug carem.
- Especially the persons using non-alcoholic drugs by injection and hazardous.
- Group of drug users available with difficult access and with minimal motivation for searching the service.
The goals of the program are based on „Harm Reduction“ (risk reduction- connected with
non-alcoholic drugs using) and the needs of the target group:
- Mapping the drug set, searching and networking with active non-alcoholic drug users in their natural environment and creating mutual trust between the client and the street-worker.
- Reduction of the risks connected with non-alcoholic drugs using and motivation to change the user’s lifestyle towards safety and drift.
- The ways of drug aplication and safe sexual behaviour.
- Involving the client to the social service system.
- Reduction of negative impact of non-alcoholic drugs on the public by collecting used
injections and their safe disposal (it menas prevetnion of infectious diseases, hepatitis,
AIDS).
Service provided:
- Program of exchanging the injections and needles.
- Distribution of germicides squares, sterile water for dilution, ascorbic acid, filters, vitamins, condoms and aluminum foils.
- Medical supplies for the basic health treatment (ointments, plasters, bandages, ..).
- Providing the information about safer usage of non-alcoholic drugs with minimal risks during their application, safe sexual behaviour , venereal disease, safe disposal of the used injections and needles (spoken or written way-handouts and brochures).
- Providing the information about AIDS, Hepatitis and possibilities of testing.
- Providing the information about the services of the contact center.
- Providing the information about the treatment options and other specialized programs
- Socio-legal advice (handling of the personal documents, housing, employment, information connected with legal issues)
- Healthcare advice, basic treatment (first aid included)
- Providing the crisis intervention
- Helping with the socio-legal issues
- Collecting the used injections and needles and their safe disposal
